Dhelakhat Tea Estate
Dhelakhat Tea Estate, located in Upper Assam near Tinsukia, is a historic tea garden renowned for its robust, malty teas. Established in the early 1900s under British control, it was later acquired by the Jardine Henderson Group in the 1960s. Situated at an elevation of approximately 300–400 feet, the estate benefits from Assam's tropical climate and fertile plains near the Brahmaputra River, ideal for cultivating high-quality tea.
The estate specializes in producing orthodox and CTC teas, known for their consistent liquors and rich flavors. Traditional hand-sorting and patient rolling techniques are preserved, ensuring the teas' distinctive quality. One of its notable offerings is the "Oriental Gold Assam Black Tea Second Flush," characterized by well-rolled golden tips and a smooth, mildly malty taste reminiscent of roasted almonds.
Dhelakhat Tea Estate is committed to sustainable practices and community development, providing employment and supporting local welfare initiatives. Its teas are celebrated worldwide, embodying the rich legacy of Assam's tea heritage.
